Opa-Locka-Self Help Community Service Center offers sever services including Foster Grandparent program, Senior Companion program. Foster Grandparent program is designed for children with special needs while Senior Companion program stands for the adults who need extra care due to several factors. Other services the agency offers include telephone reassurance for the elderly, services for teen parenting, child day care and education that are operated by the Head Start organization, and a youth development program. Along with services offered by EHEAP and VITA, financial aids are also provided when funds are available.

Programs

Child Care Providers: Programs that are involved in providing parental care for the children that either have lost their parents or are abandoned. The service is offered through some portion of 24-hour day which include variety of entertaining and creative activities and appropriate meals for children.

Crisis Nurseries/Child Care: Programs that provide residential care for the infants and children who have lost their parents or who are abandoned or who are victims of child abuse or whose parents are going through an emergency situation where they cannot keep their children at home or who are at potential risk. Care and services are provided usually on daily basis by the licensed family child care staffs.

Crime Victim Support: Programs that have an aim to assist the crime victims and their families that have experienced the terror and need medical assistance by providing the essential medication they need and taking necessary and effective steps to ensure that the incident doesn’t occur again. The victims are also benefitted by a program that assist them re-organize their lives to normal.

Youth/Student Support Groups: Programs that organize young people including students in groups and allow them to share their problems, difficulties as well as concerns with other youth in safe and supportive environment. The mediums how they will meet each other may include in-person, mobile phone or Internet.

Drill Teams: The program allows the youngsters to take part as members forming a nonmilitary marching team that engages in precision drill.

Senior Corps Volunteer Programs: The program is connected with several other programs including Foster Grandparents, Senior Companion and RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program), and assist the local nonprofits agencies in completing their goals in over 50 states.
