HCAAC provides affordable housing to Glen Burnie communities

One of the key things to a better living is housing. Shelter, along with food and clothing is most basic of essential living requirements. Housing Commission of Anne Arundel County is one such organization that has been working tirelessly for decades to provide assistance to people who find themselves unable to afford a proper home. As part of their goal to assist people, the commission has a variety of programs designed to accommodate different type of society challenges. The variety of programs that are part of the HCAAC are – Public Housing, Housing Choice, Special Needs, Self-Sufficiency, Homeownership and Youth Development.

One of the more important services provided by HCAAC are public housing facilities. Public housing facilities are programs that allow those who don’t own a home to avail of rental homes. Public housing is available in many different sizes as well as arrangements. There are public homes that are individual houses that can house an entire family. There are also public homes that are designated for community living, usually designed for special category of folks like senior citizens and disabled folks.

The commission understands that not everybody can be accommodated by their own housing facilities. In order to allow those who want to relocate to an affordable rental home, The Housing Choice Voucher Program has been developed. The way this works is that folks who are eligible for the vouchers are issued them every month. Then, they can use these vouchers as rent in any housing that can be afforded. The land owner later claims the rent as specified in the voucher from the HCAAC.

The next program, Homeownership Program, is designed to allow folks who are currently enjoying the benefits of the rental home programs. The homeownership program allows them to find out how they can move on from living in a rental home to an owned home. The organization strives to help them by providing assistance with locating low cost homes. They also provide a way of financing the purchase. Much of this is done by way of counseling to see if the family is ready to become a house owner by taking into consideration factors like current income sources. It also depends on how long they have been living at a rental facility.

The other two programs that are also part of the commission, Self-Sufficiency and Youth Development are geared towards making guiding individuals towards a better life by becoming self-sufficient and responsible.
