Anne Arundel Community Action Agency supports self-sufficient households

Poverty is an issue that needs to be addressed immediately. Working towards this goal of eradicating the situation of poverty in Anne Arundel County is the anti-poverty organization, Anne Arundel County Community Action Agency. Since 1965 the agency has worked towards achieving their goal of empowering people who are poor to get out of that situation. Much of their efforts come down to the four programs – Head Start Program, Annapolis Youth Services Bureau, Office of Home Energy Programs and Empowerment Services.

The Head Start Program, as the name would suggest is a program designed for parents who have young children. The idea with this program is to identify families that are in the low income group. These families, if they should have children who are in the pre-school age can learn about managing their young ones. They can also understand how to provide the best care to their children given their current financial situation.

Moving ahead from the head start program, the next program that is equally important is the Annapolis Youth Services Bureau. The welfare of the entire society depends on how well the youth get into a position where they are earning and are in a responsible position. In order to achieve this goal, the program has facilities to provide one to one counseling to youth to help them find their way. Sometimes, the lack of proper guidance is what makes our youth lose their way. With these programs and the counseling sessions that are part of it, the youth can look forward to a better life.

Office of Home Energy Programs is a division of the agency, which looks at a more practical aspect of living, that is home heating. Cold weather can cause an enormous amount of inconvenience for people in general, and for those who are living in homes that may not be fully prepared for the cold weather, it becomes even worse. This division of the agency looks at helping people find affordable solutions to keeping their family and home warm during the cold season. The final division of the agency is, Empowerment Services. This department looks into helping families to become self-sufficient by way of managing income, taxes and other finance related activities.

Anne Arundel Community Action Agency, thanks to these well-defined programs, is in a great place to help those who are below the poverty line. They are located in Annapolis, Maryland and are reachable at 410-626-1900.
