How do we get immediate help with housing in Raleigh, NC?

(Request from Elegant in Raleigh, North Carolina) How do my kids and myself get immediate help with houseing?

Dear Elegant,

There are a number of churches, nonprofit organizations and county agencies that serve people just like yourself in Raleigh and surrounding Wake County. I recommend contacting at least a couple of these organizations that provide immediate help with housing in Raleigh so you can find the right fit for your family.

Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas

One regional organization that provides services in Raleigh is Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas. Rental assistance and transitional housing are two key areas were the organization can help provide a bridge to self-sufficiency for your family. Call 919-832-2620 to speak with a local case manager.

Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network

One organization that I have worked with personally over the last several years is Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network. The organization has hosted Ready to Rent workshops that I have conducted in partnership with Wake County Supportive Housing Program.

I think you’ll find that the organization provides a good balance of caring individuals and supportive programs to help you gain stability for your household. There are a number of educational opportunities for residents who are looking to find permanent housing for their family.

The center is located near NC State University on Method Road. To find out whether any vacancies exist, call 919-832-6024.

Passage Home

Passage Home offers a number of transitional and permanent housing opportunities in Raleigh. These programs are located near their W. Johnson St. headquarters.

If you feel that you meet their definition of low income, you may request assistance by calling 919-834-0666. The organization does prioritize cases according to need, with a focus on single mothers who need safe and affordable housing. This could be an especially good option if you would one day like to explore home ownership. The organization is able to help with housing in Raleigh on both an immediate and permanent basis.

Wake County Human Services

Don’t forget about the supportive housing program offered through Wake County Human Services. For more information visit their main office located on Swinburne Street, just down the road from WakeMed on New Bern Avenue.

Any one of these programs can be a good place to start. You will find that the case managers are familiar with other programs located in Raleigh, providing you with additional information and referrals for rental assistance programs that serve you.
