Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas does more than pay rent and transitional housing

For over 25 years, the Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas has helped veterans regain independence, counseled families in time of need, provided comprehensive services to adults, helped refugees get used to life in a new country, and placed children in adoptive and foster homes.

ACT Team

The Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT Team) of Lutheran Family Services is geared towards individuals diagnosed with severe illness that keep them from functioning in social and community settings. The ACT Team gives these individuals the services they need to foster a better quality of life while being independent in their respective communities.

The ACT Team offers medication management, clinical counseling, job skill development, with 90% of these services provided in the individual’s homes, places they frequent and even their places of employment. The main goals of this team are to reduce frequency of late night crisis, to improve the quality of living and to eradicate the individual’s record with the criminal justice system. The adoption program of the Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas has assisted literally thousands of children throughout the years, and has given them a family to call their own. The help families with the adoption process by providing services such as liaison between placing agency and family, information sessions, pre-placement assessment and adoption finalization services.

They also provide adoption services for children with special needs. Children with medical needs, developmental or learning disorders or children of color are accepted under the special needs category. Parents who would like to adopt must be over the age of 25, rent or own their home, be financially stable and must be able to comfortably provide for the needs of the child. Counseling sessions and support is provided through single parent retreats, marital and family counseling sessions by state certified therapists.

Foster is provides to those children who are neglected. They are given the support they need to lead happy and productive lives. Their overall goal of their foster care program is to provide children with safe and supportive families. Rent Assistance and Transitional Housing

For adults coping with mental illnesses, autism, developmental disabilities, Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas offers residential services. They also offer transitional housing for the homeless and rent and transportation until they are ready to be contributing members in the community.
