Shelby Emergency Assistance has a mission to assist people in time of their crisis, by providing basic needs which may include short-term financial aid, securing permanent housing and a food pantry, in order to help overcome their crisis and move to self-sufficiency.
SEA also provide services that help and empower the selected individuals by assisting in preparing their budgets and finding jobs so that they can make significant contributions in their communities.

Programs

Social Services Department: They have links with several nonprofit organizations that make donations and send required assistances to the department which later are allocated to the eligible individuals according to their needs. The department makes an assessment report on the needy individuals evaluating their needs and then delivers the report to different organizations in order to get assistance from them that can help stabilize the victims’ crisis. Services also include food assistance, housing assistance, purchase of prescription drugs, power bill assistance with a view to prevent individuals’ line from being disconnected, financial assistance for visiting consultants, water bill payments and more.

Educational Services Department: Their mission is to make the clients educated by providing them with so many new skills through counseling and mentoring. They emphasis on clients’ self development and assist them getting closer to self-sufficiency. Other services the Educational Services Department provides include school supplies and Christmas sponsors for children, sessions on budget management, and tutoring program on the preparation for job interview. They also assist individuals with their Pharmaceutical Program applications if needed.

Shelby Teens for Effective Parenting: Shelby Teens for Effective Parenting is designed to provide essential lessons on prenatal and parenting topics for the pregnant and parenting teens who are residents of Shelby County.

STEP prepares the classes in a way so that they can be directly beneficial for the physical and emotional being of teen parents. STEP meets at Shelby County School for delivering the lessons and on a weekly basis. The main goals of STEP are to ensure good health for both babies and moms, to educate the parenting teens how they should take care of their children, and most importantly to encourage attending schools and graduation while supporting healthy lifestyle choices.

SEA Thrift Store: They offer several services for the clients including assistance for those who are in need of clothing or household furniture. Customers can get their required services at cheaper cost than their retail market prices and are informed that the profits are donated to the poor, disabled and helpless individuals.
