These rental assistance programs serve Marengo County residents with programs and emergency support

Marengo County is small, and funding for rental assistance programs is limited. Still, you can get help from these two programs.

Marengo County Community Service Program

The Marengo County Community Service Program is based in Linden. Case managers can help you with budgeting and finding solutions to your recent financial emergency.

Direct cash can be provided twice a year, but it is limited to the electricity on your current rental home. The agency does not currently have rental assistance funds to provide. As a result, you may be referred to another agency if you need cash to prevent becoming evicted from your home.

To speak with a case manager so that you can make an appointment, call 334-295-2244. This is your neighborhood community action service located on East Coats Avenue in Linden.

Demopolis Housing Authority

Why Demopolis itself is small, the Demopolis Housing Authority administers 180 public housing units. This is a sizable number of dedicated reduced rental units based on the size of Demopolis. What this means is that you have a greater chance of getting approved for residency than you would if you were in a much larger city. Those applicants might wait for 8 years for a vacancy.

Instead, you are provided access to vacancies as they come up, and any waiting list tends to be much smaller. Rent itself is far below market rent for Marengo County.

If you would like to inquire about the cheaper options provided for rent, contact the Demopolis Housing Authority at 334-289-1347 to make arrangements to complete an application and speak with a case manager. You may turn in your application at 808 East Pettus Street in Demopolis.

Instead of struggling with chronic rent problems and evictions, see what a difference one of these two agencies can make. You will see that they can help you with solutions to your problems, while high-interest lenders who promise to help you make rent this month will only make your situation worse next month.
