Lyon County rental assistance grants and loans for security deposits

Lyon County rental aid programs provide excellent benefits for individuals and families that need help with rent payments and security deposits. Loans and grants are available to applicants.

Security Deposit Loans

The Nevada Rural Housing Authority offers loans of up to $700 to provide you with the funds you need to come up with the security deposit required by your landlord. This security deposit loan carries zero interest making it an excellent alternative to consumer loans.

You’ll have to be able to repay the loan within one year making payments of at least 10% of the loan amount each month until it is paid in full. To apply for the 0% interest security deposit loan you will need to submit an application through Lyon County Community Services. Call 775-283-0177 for more information as well as to begin the application process.

Emergency Rental Assistance Grants

Lyon County Human Services operates an emergency assistance program that provides more than just utility assistance, food, gas and medication. It also provides emergency rental assistance for those who are facing a potential eviction.

Emergency rental assistance payments can be used to stay current on your rent or cure a deficiency so that you are not kicked out of your home. To get help with your back rent you will need to complete an application through Lyon County Human Services. Call 775-577-5009 extension 10.

Two Months Rental Assistance for Transitional Housing

Lyon County Human Services can also help provide up to two months worth of rental assistance to help homeless households move into permanent rental housing. The assistance is a grant and does not have to be repaid to the agency.

Those who are living on the street, in a car, living in a motel or staying with friends and family could technically qualify as being homeless. If you’re in this situation you are urged to contact Lyon County Human Services at 775-577-5009.

One Year of Rental Assistance

The Lyon County Family Enhancement Program can provide a partial subsidy to families who need help affording their rent payments while they are working to pay off debt and increasing income. The program can help families work towards self-sufficiency for up to one year.

If you feel that you need help covering part of your rent payment each month until you can get back on your feet again you are encouraged to contact Lyon County Human Services at 775-577-5009 extension 26.

Housing Choice Vouchers

A limited option may be available for those with a chronic inability to afford regular rent payments. This can include those who are elderly or disabled and are unable to work. The federal Section 8 program provides rental subsidies through vouchers that can be used by tenants to cover a portion of their rent.
