Gary Indiana Rental Assistance Programs Can Cut Rental Rates

Are you unable to afford your rent? Perhaps you are behind on your rent now. Maybe you cannot afford to move. Do you have enough to pay a security deposit? Residents of Gary, Indiana have the option to move into one of several communities that feature below-market rental rates. These rates are subsidized, meaning you could have part of your rent paid for you.

If you believe you qualify as a lower income household, then you could have better options than struggling to keep up with the rent increases where you currently live. The Gary Housing Authority does more than just help out with security deposits and rental assistance–they also provide actual communities where you can live in peace and at a lower rate.

To qualify, you do have to be considered low-income. If anyone in your household is a child, is elderly or has a disability, then your chances of qualifying are much greater.

Some communities are restricted to very low income applicants, meaning that your household income does not exceed 50% of the area median income. Others allow for higher income caps, up to 80% of area median income. This is helpful, since it allows you to live in a community with other similar households.
