Dillon low income apartments provide cheaper rental options

Beaverhead County is not known for a high number of rental properties. Still, there is limited assistance available to families struggling to meet living costs who need a place to stay.

Absent are the rental assistance programs that dole out cash grants to lower income families to help them pay their rent. Instead, funding is provide to a couple of lower income apartment communities that provide reduced rent apartments to families in need. This funding is largely from subsidies paid by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Subsidized apartments normally feature rental rates that are far below the average rental rates. These two communities have lower rents than you might otherwise be able to find in Dillon. Furthermore, some units may be capped at 30% of your adjusted gross income, which could further lower your monthly rent payments if your income is below a certain threshold.

  • Bicentenial Apartments. This apartment community on West Center Street in Dillon provides reduced rent apartments to those who qualify. HUD subsidies are accepted. Some units are also dedicated to Senior housing. Each apartment is either a studio (11 units), 1 bedroom (36 units) or 2 bedrooms (3 units). Call 406-683-2727 for more information and to see if vacancies exist.
  • Beaverhead Villa. These apartments offer 2 bedroom (24 units) or 3 bedroom (18 units) apartments on North Idaho Street in Dillon. HUD subsidies are also accepted, so there are potential reductions in your rent based on your household income. Call 406-683-6428 to ask about the waiting list or available units.

You can still get help with other budget issues if you have had a recent hardship. The Beaverhead Community Food Pantry can provide some groceries (Call 406-683-4560). Case management services through AWARE are available at their Dillon office if you have a child who is out of control (Call 406-449-3120).

If you still need help and don’t know where to turn, you may wish to contact the Beaverhead County representative with the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services. Call 406-683-3773 to see if you may get a referral for any additional assistance, whether it be for rental assistance or other aid.
