Shelby County CSA Homeless Programs provide shelter and cash assistance

Homeless individuals may now seek shelter at the Shelby County Homeless Program, which is administered by the Community Services Agency (CSA). The aim of this program is to aid impoverished and homeless individuals to gain self-sufficiency.

The Shelby County Homeless Program has two separate homeless programs. The main program offered by the Shelby County CSA is a program for the homeless, whereas the Shelby County Homeless Program has a special homeless program known as the HIV Division, for persons who are HIV positive.

The HIV Division of the Shelby County Homeless program is located at the Lipscomb-Pitts Building at 2670 Union Extended, Suite 500, in Memphis, TN. The HIV Division administers Ryan White funding to homeless adults who are HIV positive. This funding aids homeless individuals in health care related to their condition. The HIV Division also provides housing and utility assistance to individuals who are eligible for care. The HIV Division is also capable of providing individuals with healthcare and other referrals. The Shelby County CSA Homeless Program, HIV Division, can be reached at 901-222-4236.

Information on the main branch of Shelby County CSA Homeless Program can be received at Room 102 of the MLK Jr. Transitional Student Academy, located at 620 S. Lauderdale in Memphis, TN. The manager of the Shelby County Homeless Program is George Rutherford.

The Program provides several services to individuals who meet the criteria for homelessness. These services include aiding the homeless in obtaining self-sufficiency through the discussion of policy issues, distribution of cash grants to persons who are at risk of being homeless, provision of job search and placement assistance, provision of counseling to create solutions for the problems facing the homeless, and provision of food, clothing, and other necessities to homeless persons.

In order to receive assistance from the Shelby County CSA Homeless Program, an individual must meet certain criteria. If an individual resides in a public or private place that is not used as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings, an institution that provides temporary residence, or if an individual lacks a fixed, regular, or adequate residence during nighttime, the individual should qualify for services from the Shelby County CSA Homeless Program. The hours of operation for the Homeless Program are Monday through Friday, 8 am through 4:30 pm.
