Giving vets in Tennessee help with rent through Buffalo Valley

The Veterans Administration has awarded Buffalo Valley of Hohenwald, Tennessee with a rental assistance grant. Funds may be allocated to cover emergency rental assistance for Veterans who are at risk of homelessness or eviction.

Buffalo Valley Inc. is an agency that has provided assistance to the homeless in several central Tennessee counties. While the agency was originally created to provide treatment for those suffering from alcohol and substance abuse, it now focuses on a much broader offering of services as a part of its Continuum of Care commitment to the homeless.

Buffalo Valley can help you with gaining access to affordable housing if you have a history of homelessness or are at risk of homelessness. Lower income individuals and families as well as those who of experience disability or are elderly may also find assistance.

A new Veterans Administration rental assistance grant has been awarded to Buffalo Valley for the purposes of helping veterans gain access to permanent and safe housing that will be affordable to them even on a fixed income. The grants will be used to cover rental assistance for those who have sacrificed so much for their country.

Tennessee Help with Back Rent

Veterans who are delinquent on their rent could receive up to three months of cash assistance to cover the arrears. This assistance is provided for the purpose of helping the tenants get through temporary hardship situations and remain in the home without fear of eviction. A caseworker will determine whether the current rental property is permanently affordable prior to releasing funds.

Security Deposit Grant and First Month’s Rent

Veterans who need help moving into a permanently affordable home may receive cash rental assistance equal to a full month rent payment plus a similar amount as a security deposit. This funding may be approved for applicants who can afford normal monthly rental payments but who lack the upfront cash required by the landlord.

Similar to other organizations that provide rent-controlled apartments and rental homes, Buffalo Valley also provides affordable housing to the following communities:

  • Fentress County
  • Hickman County
  • Lawrence County
