Emergency Rental Assistance

Financial assistance is possible if your family is in a position where an eviction is likely. The organization does provide cash in certain circumstances if your family needs it for rent or utilities. You must be approved for benefits by completing an application and an interview with the case manager. This is not a loan program. Funds received do not have to be repaid to the agency.

If you feel that you need financial assistance in order to be able to maintain a dwelling, you may call Kanabec County Family Services at 320-679-6350. You will need answers and screening questions, consent to an interview and provide documentation necessary to prove that you are eligible for benefits.

Long-Term Rent Subsidies

While financial assistance maybe possible to deal with temporary concerns, you may find that your situation is more of a permanent nature. If you have frequently struggle to pay your rent and you are an established resident in Kanabec County, then it may be time to talk to a case manager about the Section 8 program.

Section 8 is a HUD funded program that provides permanent rent subsidies to lower income households who need help paying for a place to live. Section 8 does not necessarily mean that you would be living in a public housing project.

In order to be eligible to receive rent subsidies you will first need to be accepted into the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP). A one-page application will be needed to be completed and returned to the organization before you will be eligible. Since this program is very popular you should expect to be on a waiting list for a considerable period of time before you will be next in line for a future vacancy.

Rather than face your rent nightmare on your own call to speak with the case manager to determine whether or not you can do better. The agency is located at 905 Forest Ave. in Mora.
