Single mother of 3 worried landlord patience getting thin

(Request from Destiny in San Bernardino) I am a single mother of 3 beautiful children. Over the last few years I have been through many many trials that I try to bounce back from but to tell the truth it isn’t easy.

I recently finished school for a CNA and am just waiting to take my state board test and receive my CNA license and I know as soon as I obtain that I know I will have a job within a week. But my landlord has been very patient with me but I know his patience is running thin and I’m trying to get out of this hole but I believe I need a little help to put my kids and I in good standing that I can keep pushing forward. Thank you for your time in reading this I hope to hear back from you I do not have a phone at this time but I am able to check my email once a day so please email me. Thank you again and God bless you!

Dear Destiny,

By putting your faith in God, you will find the solution you need. I think that your landlord knows what a good person you are, which is why they are giving you the benefit of the doubt.

I encourage you to keep open communications with your landlord to show how you are making permanent changes to improve your income. This will certainly enhance your ability to afford your rent as well as all of the other utilities and living costs typically incurred by a family with several children.

As you become employed, you should keep your landlord updated with your new job and let them know of your first pay date. Be upfront if you believe the first paycheck you receive will be less than your regular pay on a full work period.

Getting to this point though may be a challenge. It sounds like it could take some time to take the test and receive your license. Are you going to have the support you need until then?

We have featured a few programs that provide rental aid in San Bernardino. I have been there a few times (my mother grew up there). I recommend checking to see what options are available that meet your needs. I think that you may need some support to remain in your current rental home prior to getting your license, gaining employment and receiving your first paychecks.

Good luck to you all! I know that you will get through this difficult period of time.
