RAFT delivers rental assistance in Nebraska to families in transition

Rental Assistance to Families in Transition (RAFT) provides much-needed rental assistance in Nebraska’s heartland.

RAFT is the local chapter of the national aid organization, and it operates as the Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska, which also serves Southwest Nebraska. RAFT is committed to helping working families who are struggling to get by. The goal is to help you become self-sufficient. In reaching this goal the agency provides comprehensive programs to make sure that you have the support you need to pay your bills, work towards increasing your income and able to support your family permanently.

Transitional Housing

The RAFT transitional housing program combines workshops and training programs with your work schedule to make sure that you are on track to reach your ultimate goals. RAFT is not a handout program for rent payments. It is actually a replacement to the traditional tenant/landlord relationship.

You will not be required to make a security deposit to move in as part of the program. Your commitment is instead measured by your attendance for weekly meetings and adherence to your work schedule.

This is not a permanent rental assistance program. RAFT is a transitional housing program that can help you improve your credit, pay off debt and save money towards future rent costs and security deposit on a permanent rental home.

Affordable Housing

The Committee Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska also provides affordable housing in your community. If your landlord is having difficulty maintaining your rental property, the agency can provide housing rehab funding to help them bring the home up to code and ensure a clean and safe environment for all tenants.

As a tenant, you also will have increased opportunities to finally move beyond renting and one day own your own home. The agency operates the REACH program for longtime tenants near Kearney who would like to find out how they can buy their own home.

Nebraska rental assistance programs are intended to provide you with a hand up, not a handout. You may be reluctant to ask for help when times get tough. However, the programs are intended to help those who are committed to helping themselves.

Stop struggling to make rent. Forget about those high-interest loans to raise quick cash. What you may need is a real change that can help you break free from financial hardship once and for all.
