NeighborImpact transitional housing offered in Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson Counties

This nonprofit organization has been providing rental assistance to central Oregon since 1985.

Transitional Housing

If you have children living with you and you are either homeless or at risk of homelessness, then you might be able to benefit from NeighborImpact’s transitional housing program. This program is offered to families who earn less than 50% of federal poverty guidelines, meaning that you must be classified as very low income in order to qualify.

If approved, you could receive a rent subsidy that covers a portion of your monthly rent payment. The rental assistance subsidy is provided on a transitional basis only. Therefore, you would only be able to receive the subsidy for up to a year.

In return for getting the rental assistance funds, you will be working with a case manager who will help you transition back to being able to live on your own without assistance. They can help you with budgeting and saving money, but mostly they will work with you to help you increase your income. That way, you can afford a nicer home along with the utilities and other finer things that you may have done without over the past couple of years.

You will have access to classes on self improvement as well as job skills training. Your case manager will help you determine which classes to attend so that you may best apply them to your job search and ultimately, to your apartment or rental home search.

To get started, call a NeighborImpact case manager nearest you:

  • Crook County. Call 541-416-0107.
  • Deschutes County. Call 541-385-0301.
  • Jefferson County. Call 541-475-7017.

Emergency Housing

If you have recently been evicted, then your family may be able to find refuge at Nancy’s House. Nancy’s House is a special family shelter that provides safe housing to families with children. Since there are only 5 families allowed at a time, you do not have to worry about your family being overwhelmed by a huge crowd.

Nancy’s House is located in Bend, Oregon (Deschutes County). For consideration, call 541-385-0301. Residents of Nancy’s House are generally encouraged to take advantage of the transitional housing program to ease them back into their own home.

Rental Assistance

NeighborImpact has periodically provided rental assistance to local families who are late on rent payments. The goal is to prevent evictions and keep you in your own home.

Due to limited funding, NeighborImpact only has rental assistance funds available during certain times of the year. Call 541-318-7506 to see if any funds are available to help you with your rent.

Loans for Rent

NeighborImpact does not currently lend money for rent payments. All financial support is supplied as a grant that does not have to be repaid.
