I need rental assistance in Glendale, AZ to avoid an eviction

(Request from Tracy in Glendale, Arizona) I received five day notice at court yesterday and need to come up with rent money or I will be evicted. I have had health problems and was wondering if you knew where I can obtain financial assistance?

Dear Tracy,

Your options will depend largely on your household income. If you or someone in your household is receiving income through employment or government assistance, then it may be possible to gain approval for one of the Phoenix rental loan companies that work with tenants just like you. Collateral may not be required, but reasonable credit requirements should be expected.

I must assume that there has been a situation that has created a hardship that is keeping your from being able to make your rent payments. It could be an unexpected expense, but a disruption in income is the usual culprit so I will make that assumption in your case.

For a hardship that causes you to lose income, there is some grant-based rental assistance in Glendale, AZ to consider. These programs utilize public and/or private grant funding to provide either long-term rent subsidies or short-term emergency rental assistance to needy households.

Your impending eviction means that you need emergency rental assistance. Some combination of rental assistance grants, zero-interest loans, security deposit guarantees, emergency shelter and transitional housing may be necessary to make sure that you are not thrown out on the street. Here are some options for you.

Glendale AZ Community Action Program

The Glendale AZ Community Action Program provides many of these rental assistance services to tenants currently living in Glendale. These are provided as a public service to end homelessness.

Of particular interest to your situation would be the Eviction Rent Payment program. You will need to contact the organization directly at 623-930-2460 to schedule an appointment. Since you have already received a 5-day eviction notice, you will need to act quickly. Make sure that you bring the notice with you to your appointment.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army Glendale Corps provides a limited emergency rental assistance program to help households through an immediate crisis situation. The assistance provided does not normally go towards rent payments, so it is important to combine this aid with other programs.

The Salvation Army may be able to help with non-rent assistance to help free up cash for your rent payments. You can get help with food and clothing, plus cash may be provided for your utilities. Call 623-934-0469 for more information.

Please keep an open mind when speaking with a case manager at each organization. You should be aware that although each organization has specific limits and eligibility requirements, they can often refer you into another program or opportunity that may better meet your needs. For this reason, it is important to share as much information about your situation as possible and allow them to help you follow through on an action plan.

Utility Help

While the Glendale AZ Community Action Program provides utility deposit assistance, PPEP can also provide help with utilities. This can be especially helpful if you are trying to choose between paying rent or utilities.
