I need a loan to stop my eviction notice in Livingston County, MI

(Request from Michael in Fowlerville, Michigan) I need a loan to stop my eviction notice by Monday morning I need help.

Dear Michael,

It sounds like you are in a very serious situation at the moment. Based on your request I can assume that’s you’ve received an eviction notice that requires that you vacate the premises almost immediately. In order to give you the necessary help you may wish to contact the following agency.

OLHSA

Since you are a resident of Livingston County I recommend that you contact the Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency (OLHSA). The agency operates an emergency eviction prevention program that might be able to intervene on your behalf but you need to act quickly.

We featured OLHSA back in August 2013 and found that the agency provides comprehensive support for individuals and families locally. We provided some information about OLHSA that may be helpful to you as well as their contact information. Of course you should consider calling them directly at 248-542-5860.

The agency may be able to step in and stop the eviction process by negotiating a workaround arrangement directly with your landlord. It is up to the case managers and available funding whether or not they are able to provide actual cash assistance to prevent the eviction.

Salvation Army

If your rental delinquency is due to an emergency situation that you’ve experienced, then there is the possibility that the Salvation Army of Livingston County may be able to help. If you feel that you’ve experienced a bona fide hardship situation in you may request assistance by calling 517-546-4750. Keep in mind that this emergency rental assistance is typically grant-based, so you would not need to repay the funds as you would with a loan. Still there are lending options available to you.

There are a couple of credit unions located in Livingston County that you would be eligible to join. Both provide unsecured rental loans that feature interest rates that are substantially less than your typical consumer finance agency loans.

Lake Trust Credit Union

Lake Trust Credit Union offers its members unsecured personal loans that currently feature interest rates ranging from approximately 10 to 20% APR. You can apply for membership and a personal loan within the same day. If you are able to secure the funds today and you can use this to catch up on your late rent and avoid the eviction. To request membership and loan application details, call 517-267-7200 to speak with a Lake Trust Credit Union representative.

LOC Federal Credit Union

LOC Federal Credit Union also extends membership to Livingston County tenants. Rental loans of up to $7000 can be repaid over the course of four years and of interest rates as low as 5.9% APR currently. This is a pretty sweet deal and can help you avoid becoming evicted if you act today and meet their creditworthiness requirements. Contact LOC directly at 248-474-2200.

You can still pursue rental loans with consumer finance companies located throughout Livingston County. If you choose to go this route, I recommend that you carefully consider all costs and fees to determine whether or not such loans are even going to be affordable for you.

There is no guarantee that any of these organizations or agencies will be able to provide a loan to stop your eviction notice. By contacting a few of these though you have a better idea of what benefits you can obtain and hopefully be able to get the rental assistance you need right away you can avoid becoming evicted from your current property.
