Las Vegas rent assistance begins with HELP of Southern Nevada

Nearly 5% of Clark County households were assisted by HELP of Southern Nevada last year.

Rental Assistance Program

HELP of Southern Nevada has provided a rental assistance program serving lower income households in and around the Greater Las Vegas area for many years. For many households, this emergency funding represents the last line of defense before an eviction. Once a family is evicted from their home, research shows that the costs and hardships mount for the family. It also causes higher costs to local government agencies and the area nonprofit organizations that strain to meet the increasing demand for services.

As is the case with many local rental assistance programs, HELP of Southern Nevada depends on many sources of support to provide the funding necessary to help so many needy families. Due to fluctuations in funding and a high demand for services, the agency does not always have funds available to pay out for back rent or security deposits.

When funding allows, HELP can provide rental assistance to applicants who can document a recent financial hardship. Examples include job loss, car repairs or medical bills.

You will need to provide an eviction notice (3 or 5 day notice) in order to show that you are in imminent danger of becoming homeless. In order to support your request for rental assistance, you need to provide evidence for how you became financially distressed. Case workers will need to see how your income was spent prior to the financial emergency.

Documentation will need to include social security cards for all household members as well as a copy of your lease agreement. A standard lease of at least 6 months is required. If you currently rent a room or pay by the week, then you will need to be referred to another program. Finally, you need to provide pay stubs or other proof of income over the past month.

Your case manager will work with you to secure the necessary help that you need. This can include utility assistance and food aid.

Homeless Prevention Rapid Re-Housing Program

We discovered that HELP of Southern Nevada also maintains a specialized program to help families that need rental assistance. To provide this service, applicants must be referred by one of their partner agencies. This collaboration between agencies ensures that all resources are utilized to help each family get the support it needs and avoid becoming homeless.
