Hannah House provides transitional housing in Columbia SC

Founded in 1999 and formerly the Davis Hotel in the 1940’s, Hannah House provides transitional housing facilities that is faith based to Columbia, S.C. With over 40 beds, the facility is equipped with a clothing boutique and a laundry in the basement, and the main level comprises of a kitchen, children’s play room, living room and staff offices. the 1 and 2 bedroom apartments are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors and the 4th floor consists of a dormitory.

The Hannah House provides shelter for approximate 3-6 months, where residents are entitled to personal hygiene supplies, three meals a day and other essentials for daily life. Hannah House offers more than just a shelter, but also offers life changing activities for women that include Bible studies, spiritual and financial counseling, job skills training, life skills training, parenting classes, dental and health care and child care for working mothers. For children, the Hannah House provides a number of activities as well to include Bible study, annual Easter and Christmas party, YMCA summer camp and children’s garden day care.

The services offered by the Hannah House are made possible by local businesses and churches and the bathrooms, awning and paint received a makeover courtesy of the 2010 leadership class. The leadership class students also educated the residents on financial literacy and renovated the patio for better access. Leadership Columbia has also helped the Hannah House secure a partnership with YMCA, who now offer summer camps for their children and full scholarships for eligible residents.

The Hannah House is a Christ Central Mission, where meet the needs of existing missions and work on establishing new ones. Additionally, they work with individuals who need help establishing new missions. The mission office also helps residents think through their existing problems related to crime, joblessness, and school dropouts by providing them with the necessary training and teachings.

The Hannah House is funded exclusively by donations, and any donations they accept are tax deductible. Because the mission is run by voluntary members, 80% of donations goes towards funding the programs and operating the facility.
