Greenwood, Newberry, Laurens rent assistance provided through GLEAMNS HRC

GLEAMNS Human Resources Commission has been providing community support services since 1966. The organization currently provides rental assistance and several other family friendly services to support lower income households in Greenwood, Laurens, Edgefield, Abbeville, McCormick, Newberry and Saluda Counties. This service area is what gave the agency its name.

Community Service Block Grants

GLEAMNS currently administers community service block grants (CSBGs) that are used to strengthen financially distressed households in this part of Western South Carolina. CSBGs are public funds that are utilized in a number of ways to provide emergency assistance to individuals and families who have experienced a recent financial crisis.

One primary use of the funds is to provide emergency rental assistance to households who might be at risk of homelessness. If you have received an eviction notice and feel that you have no other place to turn, then you should schedule an appointment with a GLEAMNS case manager.

You will need to bring the eviction notice as well as any other documentation that proves that you have a need for emergency aid. A copy of your lease agreement and pay stubs over at least the past month may be necessary to confirm eligibility for assistance.

Emergency rent assistance may be approved if your case manager believes that it will keep you from being evicted. If you will still be facing eviction after receiving the back rent payment, then an alternative goal may be sought.

Rent is not the only thing that GLEAMNS can assist with. Electricity and water bills can also be assisted with. Just bring in your disconnection notice and then the case manager can look at curing your delinquency so that you may keep your utilities on. They will also screen you for LIHEAP eligibility so that you may obtain any energy credits that can reduce your future utility bills.
