Community Service Program (CSP) is a private, nonprofit and community action organization founded by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. Their main mission is to ensure the development of the quality of life for the low-income and vulnerable individuals in the community. They use resources, funded by the donors, general public or other generous private organizations, in order to improve and administrate several programs it operates. They provide available resources and services for the low-income and helpless populations in order to fulfill their needs and lead them to self-sufficiency in the society.

Programs

Supportive Services: Supportive services program help people with direct assistance or, in some cases, providing information about other agencies that may assist them with additional benefits for the related issues. The service is available Monday through Friday to assist people in many sectors of their lives in order to develop the quality of their lives. As with every program, Supportive Service program also has few eligible requirements that need to be met and can differ from program to program. Family size and the income determine whether or not an individual is qualified. I addition, some documentations including social security numbers, birthday certificates and proof of income of all family members may be required. 

Housing: This program is designed to provide individuals and their families the scope to acquire decent, safe and affordable housing. After the community improvement efforts have began, Community Service Program (CSP) has been approaching many effective and innovative steps to resolve inadequate housing stock in Tuscaloosa and some other local communities. CSP has been working so hard since its incorporation to improve the quality of lives and meet the needs of people in West Alabama. CSP also provide assistance for people through the Housing program by constructing single-family housing, re-constructing existing housing and through the maintenance of multi-family housing. CSP respects all types of people and provide required assistance regardless of their race, color, origin, religion and sex. Their other services include; construction of apartments, housing counseling, housing rehabilitation and housing development.

Education: This program offers two major services such as Early Intervention and Head start. Early Intervention’s main mission is to help children who are under the age of three or four and have problems with the natural development. This program is funded by the Alabama Department of Rehabilitative Services and the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. Early Intervention focuses on finding out the special needs of a child and outlines an individualized plan and services to help the development process in children.

Head Start, on the other hand, concentrates on the basic needs of every child. Included services are focusing on the behaviors and activities of the children and marking out issues from their, if any, abnormal behavior or practices and taking effective and immediate steps to prevent any kind of mental or physical disorder which ensures a child’s life-long well-being.
