Adair County Neighborhood Center can provide emergency rental assistance

Greenfield, Iowa tenants who are having trouble making their rent payments might have a chance to get help from a community agency serving Adair County.

The Adair County Neighborhood Center provides a number of services to assist lower income families who could use an extra hand. One of those services is rental assistance through a special program.

In certain emergency situations, a case manager assigned to you might recommend that funding be approved to help cover your rent payment(s). If they authorize funding, then you could receive at least a month of rent to help you satisfy your landlord’s demands and catch up on your back payments.

Supplemental housing support can include utility assistance to lower your fuel/power bills. It may even be possible for some landlords to receive weatherization assistance if it will help to reduce your utility bills.

The agency also provides a huge host of programs that are targeted primarily to families with small children. These include counseling, head start preschool, WIC and a health clinic for youth.

If you believe that your household has experienced a bona fide hardship and you need help with your rent, then you should consider contacting the Adair County Neighborhood Center. Call 641-743-2424 to talk with a case manager and see if your family might qualify for help.

If anyone in your household is a Veteran, they may refer you to the Adair County Commission of Veteran Affairs for help. That organization also has access to funds to assist with rent payments, and their purpose is to assist those Veterans who so honorably served our country. Rental assistance may also be combined with utility payments in a single grant. Even transportation can be arranged if you need help getting to your VA medical appointments. Veterans may call the Adair County Commission of Veteran Affairs at 641-743-2656.
